Writers’ Residencies from Around the World Available to Nigerian Authors
Going  for   a  writer's  residency  programe  is  by no means a  luxury ,  it  is  for  a  writer,  the  equivalent of  spirtual  a  prigrimage   to   rediscover  oneself,   check  the  profile  of   most sucessful  Nigerian   writer: Chuma  Nwokolo, E.E Sule, Emman  Shehu and  a host   of  other  writers  and  you  will   discover that  residency  programmes  gave   them the  impetous   to be  where  they are   today  in  Nigeria's  literary  scheme  of  things. Residency  programme  is  very  imporatant  because ,    writing  is   one  the most  tedious  professions  in the  world  ."Writing"   is   both very  "greedy and jealous"  so  much,  so   that  an  average  writer  suffers   from  great  dysfunctional  behaviours  in   an  attempt   to  get   inspiration   and  increased    creative  productivity, even  worse still,a  great  number  of  writers   may  not   celebrate   their  fortieth  birthday   because of  so  many  of them  are  trapped in  their   bohemian  and  addictive  behaviours in  other  to  maintain  the  creative   flow.  Writing  Residency   programmes  is  therefore  very good  as  it  affords  the  writer  a  very  conducive  environment  to  bring  out  the  very  best hidden in   them. Basically  a good  residency  programme  affords  the   writer  a  platform  to  interact  at   a  higher  level  with   accomplished  writers  thereby  imbibing    health literary   skills  and   work  ethics  that  will  churn out  the  best in  them.  The  Diversion of  a  new  city and  culture   tends  to  provide  an inner  thrill  and  excitement   that    will  open up  closed  creative   windows  in  our  subconscious  minds.
Aside   the  Ebedi   writers   residency  programme  in  ogun state   ,   which  has  attracted    international   writers  from  around  the  world, there  is  no  other    writers     residency   programme   available  to   Nigerians  in   Nigeria.  However , there is  a  longlist of international  options  available   to   the  huge   number   of   writers  in  Nigeria.  Below  are   some  of    them.
