Letter to a Discouraged Writer
Dear Discouraged
Writer
Being a writer is not the easiest
thing in the world. The history
of literature is of course,
strewn with the neglected,
the misunderstood, the forgotten, and those who
will never fully
realize their potentials but the
truth is -It isn’t the hardest thing in the world either.
Everything in life comes with the ups & downs, but after spending a
week on the phone with business owners, I wanted to write this note.
I feel
you. As we speak, I don’t feel like the most successful person on earth.
Sure, we have some good
writing deals running, but there is still a little bit of
discouragement present. You know what it’s like… The weight of:
- The Publishing outfit
that keeps turning
down your Manuscript
- Not being where you thought
you would be at this point in your life
- Uncertainty. Constant
uncertainty.
- The feeling
that your environment isn’t
perfect for you and
maybe you should
just migrate to
a better land
filled with opportunties .
- Trying to give people great
opportunities, but they don’t seem to appreciate it
- People letting you down
- You letting yourself down
- Seeing other writers , you
know you are
a billion times better
than , getting
big endorsement and
writer’s residency
programmes around the
worlds & Delivering keynote
speeches around the
world , while you
just sit down
on your writing
table scribbling God
knows what ?
- And on and on and on it
goes…
This is
the side the literary world they
don’t teach you in literary seminars and
workshops or Become a “ Bestseller Sweet-talk
Programmes”.
I want
you to know something. The discouragement you feel inside is real &
coming from somewhere and it
real…
“The
happiest & healthiest people are those whose expectations meet reality.”
Here are
four questions I want you to ask yourself:
1. What
do I expect my Writing to give me?
No Job
or Thing will ever give you peace, fulfilment, joy,
purpose, or anything like that. If you are expecting that from being a
writer, you won’t find it. If you are constantly discouraged or
frustrated about writing, it might be because you are hoping it will give you
something, it does
not possess the ability in
itself to give. Maybe
it is time
to stop looking
for happiness outside
and looking more
inside to tap the
inexhaustible power within..
2. Who am
I trying to please?
Now lets
get this straight, they are
some people you
can never please
no matter what you
do, so my
candid advice ,
for you is
stay away from
such toxic fellows
and quit expending
you energy on
someone who has long
concluded in his
mind that you
are a hopelessly
useless writer. Some of them
may be you closest
pals and buddies,
But you need
to look beyond
them and focus on
the Big Picture.. It’s impossible because we
are imperfect people & they are as well. If you are trying to please
everybody, you will be miserable. You can never keep up with anyone
else’s
What lie
am I believing?
Writers live
in an imaginary & fictional
world and believe
, that is cool,
but you neeed
to do some
reality check from
time to time.
They are times
you need to
be brutally honest
with yourself and
tell yourself the simple
truth. This things
do not happen in
a day, enduring success
take s time and contionous
self improvement… so
instead of deceiving
yourself that you
have written a
bestseller that everybody
is ignoring and
not giving attention to, why
not buy some
more books sit
down and improve
yourself the more,
stop talking more
and write more.
Your discouragement isn’t just
discouragement. It’s a symptom of something deeper going on. If you
want to create a healthy business, you can’t live mad all the time. You
can’t be frustrated 24/7. Take a step today & answer these questions
honestly.I believe it will help you beat your discouragement & get back on
the growth track.
